Vasquez Javys D'Backs By The Baseballs
Can Leaderless Red Sox Take Advantage??

The four headed Red Sox G.M. machine should hook up with their old 5th wheel-Arizona G.M. Josh Byrnes. A Clement for Vasquez swap makes sense for both teams, as the snakes have to deal Javier by March, and Clement also appears to need a smaller market. Although Vasquez had a poor 2nd half of 2004 for the Yankees, he was a dominant All-Star in the first half, is only 29 years old, and, unlike Matt Clement, has been a #1 caliber starter in the past. Javy has one less year remaining on his deal (2 years-$23 million remaining) than does Clement, so the deal makes sense for the Sox from a fiscal standpoint as well. A deal involving David Wells should be considered as plan B, although Arizona would likely want a prospect, or an expanded deal.
