Hansen Could Soon Do More Than Mop
Let's get someone who actually likes the game, and can throw harder than Tommy John, Mother Foulker
Boston Red Sox HUB: The Portland Sea Dogs' postseason came to an end last night, which means there's a very good chance that Craig Hansen's major-league career is about to begin.
The Sox want to check in today with Hansen, who did not pitch last night, and see how he's doing physically. Hansen was shut down for two weeks earlier this month with a dead arm, but has pitched for the Sea Dogs in the postseason and reported no soreness.
His fastball has regularly been 95 to 96 mph.
Boston begins a week-long road trip to Tampa Bay and Baltimore starting tomorrow, and the Sox organization likes the idea of having Hansen make his debut on the road, away from the media attention that would blanket his debut at Fenway.
Though he was not on the major-league roster before Sept. 1, Hansen could be eligible for the postseason roster if he can convince the club that's he's worthy of a spot over the final two weeks."
