PAYTON'S PLACE??
Payton will request the Hawks buy out his contract, allowing him to be signed as a free agent by a playoff contender, with Miami and Boston showing the most interest. And a buyout of Michael Stewart's contract could be finalized as early as today. That would leave Tom Gugliotta as the only player in the trade to actually suit up for the Hawks. Hawks GM Billy Knight wouldn't discuss those rumors, and said he would speak to Payton before commenting on the future Hall of Famer's future. -- Atlanta Journal Constitution
